The Final project

When I reach the Final Project, it is the perfect timing for me, because at that time, I will go to Chicago. So the first thing come to my mind is recording the process and share some experiences when I am in Chicago. Thanksgiving Day and black Friday, which give me a prefect chance to do this project. At November 21th, I went to the airport and started this journey. I hate someone around me use video recorder to record everything. So when I recorded something, I did it conceal. This is a reason some shots were a little bit shake. Everyone said that Chicago is a very beautiful city. As for this point of view, I cannot agree more. That is the America in my mind when I was in China. I really like that city. I spend many time hang out with my friends, most of time we were in the Michigan Ave, so I took many video about Michigan Ave. I remember one interesting thing; there are many carriages which lead by a real horse, most of time they moved with a really slow speed. The result of this slow speed was many cars fall behind these carriages and kept push horn. So I also took a video about these horses’ carriages. At the last night, one of my female friends came to found me. We went to a big mall, one thing shocked me. I can never imagine Lego can build such big building. So we went into that Lego store and took some video. Then we have chance to eat in the most delicious fast food restaurant. Then I must go back to Columbus in the second day’s morning. When I came to Chicago, I took some videos on the airplane, such a beautiful night view. In order to corresponding, when I came back to Columbus, I also took the view on the airplane. One big event occurred in the day I came back which is we won Michigan at that day! There were many people around street and campus. Everybody was exciting. At the last of the project, I took video about the getting up situation which indicates that a new school week will come.

Before I make the project, I think I will spend many time in Purdue University. However I did not go to that university. I also think that I will take many beautiful buildings, but my friend and I both are not that kind of person who likes to go to scenic spots. So I missed many types of scenery. I imagine many situations which I would like to record. Such as airplane cross the clouds, or many expensive cars cross the roads. The project in my mind is quiet beautiful and delicate.

During the making process, I feel a little bit regrets. I think if I took more videos this situation will be better. There are many symbols of Chicago I did not record. However, I still feel quite comfortable with the thing I record. It is reality and do not like some official traveling TV program. I feel very satisfied in one shot which is the Lego toy with many heads. This video create a relaxed atmosphere, because I just record things which around me, it closer to the reality. And the views I chose is unique all these series features make this video cover with free. The music I choose also very quiet and very suitable for this video.  

After I finish this video I could stop blame on my friend who helps take the videos. It has some uncomfortable feeling because some of the shots are really unstable. But for the most part, it is alright. I tried best in this project, it let me understand how difficult for a person to make a brilliant video. Because the imaginations always far away from reality. Now I have more experiences about how to make video, if let me go to Chicago again, I will improve more. But at this time, I tied and did it the best way. 

Brainstorming of Final Project

I will use the final project to tell any experiences which occur during the trip from Columbus to Purdue University.This is a prefect timing for me to do the Final project. The Thanksgiving vacation will coming which can provide many experience and  materials to me. I will see the complete different views with comparing to The Ohio State University to the Purdue University. During this thanksgiving break, I decided to go to Chicago and Purdue University. The first thing came to my mind is I want to use flashback to tell this story, which means tell this story from the end to the beginning  I will take a shot of the sky in Purdue University. And the go back to the beginning of this story. Because I will stay in Chicago for one night, I am look forward about the view in Chicago, and also will shot the beautiful scenery along the trip.         

Failure Paper

To be honest, I enjoy this course. Thanks for you to provide such colorful lesson to me. I enjoy the video that you play during class and the project system. From my perspective, I think the biggest failure for me in this course is I do not pay attention of the rules. I did not read the guide carefully. Most of time rules are more important than idea, unless the idea is too significant to control. I cannot come up with some great idea now, so most of time we should obey rules. Also I learn how to use Photoshop and how to make my own movie. All these things are very useful to me and I enjoy it. When I was in China I want to study how to use Photoshop, but I never did. Although this course only give me some basic information about how to us Photoshop, just like how to add layers, how to take a piece of picture out. I still feel these are very useful. I think the most successful project is Project 2, the map one. I really think that one is brilliant. A good work must be different and unique. Take this map for example, we people think about map, them just think the normal map. I want to combine time and map together, because we spend time on walking and checking the map. So this project came out. I learn think things in different can be successful. This point of view can connect with the video which we watch during the class. Every artist has unique style; even some of them are weird. The truth is they are different from all of us. So the thing I learn from this successful is think things differently and comprehensive. If I have chance to redo a project I will redo Project 3. The sizes of each item are not very suitable. If let me redo this project I will choose different background and suitable size.

  

Project 5

My word is “store”. When I look this word, the first impression is the real store, such as Best Buy or Target. However, this store is not a noun, this time store is use as a verb. Then I look up this word in dictionary, “Store” is mean to keep, set aside, or accumulate for future use. So I must put my object into a thing like container. Then I decided to use my IPod for my object. I use this IPod listen music every day.  Every product is stored in pack and most of them are selling in the store. So I decided this project by reappear the process of shopping my iPod, but the difference is I want to flashback this process.

First I take out my IPod and put it on my desk.  It is quite dirty at this time.

Then I need to clean it up, just like it is new. I put it out of the protect case, and swipe it especially the screen part.

I have a hobbit; I keep all the cases which store technology products, next I found the pack for IPod and put all these things together on my desk.  

Then I use this pack to store my IPod again, just seems like when I brought it.

I close the cover of the pack; my IPod is stored in this pack. This scenery makes me think IPod is going back to home at that time.

Next step is using tape stick this box.

 

I writes “New Arrive” on the box, forget my poor handwriting. I just want to create the situation this product is new, and also make me feel the exciting feeling when I get this IPod again.

 

I flashback this process of buying a new IPod, use the original pack to store the IPod, and recover the Old IPod just like we I first time open it. I feel it is quite meaningful and interest.

The first place I choose to shot is my home’s door. I open this door every day. I take this place and record the sound of door open. Every time I open this door which means that a new day coming. Because I have a habit which is I test the temperature by open the door and feel it. This habit decides what clothes I choose to wear and what mood I am in that day. When I close my eyes I can hear the sound of door open and feel a fresh starting of a day. Second shot I take is the door of Fisher Business College. Right now I am in the pre-business program I hope and I should get into Business College in the future. It is more like a challenge for me, because all the classes in that college are quiet hard and I will try my best to learn something from that program. When I close my eyes I can image every time I open that door the hard working environment and the busy time I will have. The last shot I record is in the class. I record my friend typing sound. This is the evidence of our working. I really love this course, I learn a lot in this course. I went an art exhibition, and edit picture by myself. When I close my eyes I can hear students ask questions and typing sound around me. I can recall all the time I spend on this class which is interesting and enriching.     

From my perspective, I believe that sound has their own glamour. When people saw something, there is no space left for imagination. However, when people hear sounds which there a brunch of points that people can put the imagination. All these reason make me like sound better.

Response to Carver “Cathedral”

This article talks about a story between three persons. A blind man, a women and her husband. This blind man plays a key role in the relationship between these two person. I like this article because this blind man teaches the man how to feel by using heart. Because this blind man cannot see anything, so he uses his heart to feel everything. At the end of this passage, this man make sure he can feel by using his heart, there really are somethings he been ignored for a long time.

About the places I do not like about this passage is that there is too many dialogue but do not have enough descriptions. I want to try to understand the relationship between the man and the blind man. I can see the women like this blind man and consider he as a teacher and a listener. From my perspective I believe the relationship between these two male cannot be good. However this is only my conception. I believe writer can spend a little bit on the description part in order to make the relationship of all these three people is clear.    

Response to Wallace's article

This passage is a great one. It explain deep principles by using very easy language. I like this passage, especially one example. In this article, writer mention a example that a theist was in trouble in a cold environment and all the world covered by snow which is Alaska. This theist prayed to God to save him otherwise he will die in this area of snow. At that time there were Eskimo saved him. However, the atheist think this is a coincidence. I like this example is because is there have God always be a contentious topic. But the example he used to explain this topic is very easy to understand. 
One thing I dislike is this article address too much about the bad side of adult world. From my perspective, I believe that everyone can live in different style. I like to read,  like to sport. However in this passage, Wallace mention one point of view which is adult life, you will be totally hosed. I disagree with this point of view. Totally hosed means you will become the same with other people， I do not think this is reliable and possible. Everyone should live in different way and everybody wants to be different, so it cannot be hosed.

Experience of Annie Leibovitz’s Exhibition

This Friday I went to the exhibition of Annie Leibovitz which gave many interesting feelings. I saw many pictures before, which are very famous. However, when I notice all these great and magnificent pictures are all from one photographer, I was shocked. Then I realized Annie Leibovitz must be the greatest photographer in contemporary society.

Every photo was telling a story to me. I can actually feel I am in that story. A good photographer can use good setting and good equipment creates a good picture. However a great photographer can tell story through a photo. Annie belongs to the greatness definitely. Every single photo was beautiful and meaningful. When people enjoy into pictures, they can feel their emotion flow. The most famous photo from Annie must be Lennon and Yako. This photo is the significant accomplishment in the history of photography.

Another point which I like most is this exhibition has feeling of high culture. Many photos are about sex; however I did not feel any uncomfortable. It is art as I say. Another photo which gave me deep impression is Johnny Depp and Kate Moss. Johnny groveled on Kate Moss’ nicked body. Kate Moss’ eyes throw off charming expression.  Johnny Depp is my favorite actor, I like him because the temperament he own. He did not look shot in this photo, however I still can see his face even can feeling through his profile face. Kate Moss played an important role in this picture, her eyes, and her expression are lovely graceful. This is the photo I like the most.

To sum up, I feel very honor to have this opportunity to join this exhibition. I am enjoy it vey much, in addition, I also feel my sentiment be improved.

Cell Phone- Now, I am the costumer of Sumsung Galaxy 3s. I changed my phone recently. I am very interest in technology. One thing special for me, I do not like iPhone. the biggest reason for this is almost everyone owns one. In addition, the system of iPhone is quiet close. This phone indicates that I want to be different from other.

My iPod Classic- This is a kind of thing I never put at home. I always carry it all the time.  I choose this because I love to listen music. I enjoy music very much. Greenday is my famous band. I can feel some emotions from the songs which they sing. When I study I like to listen some light music, when I clean my room I like to listen punk music or some rock music, because light music can make me feel quiet and punk music can make me feel energy. Music can influence my emotions, which indicate I am a emotional person.

Cigarette- Usually I take 3- 4 cigarettes everyday. I brought  many cigarettes from China.The cigarette I brought is the same that I used to smoke in China. I choose cigarette because is not only I feel sick I smoke one, when I feel a kind of homesick, I smoke one. I believe it is can reduce missing.

Memorandum- I choose this because I do not have a smart brain, which is the main reason I must carry my memorandum. There is not only some I should do on memorandum, also has something I want to do, even next 3 years or 5 years. Sometime I feel a kind of specific feeling I also write it down on my memorandum. The sentences I wrote maybe did not have any meaning. Which prove I am a kind of organized person and like to fantasy.

Bracelet- I have three bracelets. I choose one of them. I choose this one because this is the symbol for me. All my friends know I wear this all the time. Even when I shower.This bracelet if from a mountain which named Tai locates in north part of China. This bracelet also has some religion meaning. This Bracelet is from Taoism. This is a traditional Chinese religion which address kindness and nature, no one can change you, you are what you are. Although I am not a believer of this religion, I think the belief is excellently correct. I believe people should be kind and think about other people.

Lighter- As I already mentioned, I smoke, so I should have a lighter with me all the time. However, this lighter is quiet different. It is from a movie named Constantine.I love this movie very much, I enjoy this movie because it mention some points I cannot agree more. To be specific, it mentioned that people must think about others can have a good ending. To be selfless to good people always is a good thing.

Wallet- I choose this wallet because this wallet is my brother gave to me when he knew I will go to America. I use this wallet more than 1 year. This kind of situation is vary rare to me. I never use a wallet more than a year at before. I used to pour water on this wallet and gums also stick on the wallet. However I still use this wallet. Nostalgic always be one of my personality.

The background is my favorite color blue. You also can see there is a Chinese sentence on the screen of my phone.   In English is mean that greatness is very hard to achieve, however there are many ways to achieve. I love this sentence very much, and I use this sentence to courage myself. When my friend see this sentence they think of me. This is belong to my personal identity.This picture only shows the surface of those things. This picture cannot show what the inside of my memo or what is in my wallet. There are buck ID and my diver-license in this wallet.All these things are my personal identities, however we cannot see from this picture.To sum up, I want to be different from other people, and I try my best to be kindness. Sometime I feel homesick because I am a emotional person.I also try to be selfless and organized person and sometime I did successfully. Nostalgic always be my personality. The final picture shows my favorite sentence, and it cannot show specific context in things.            

Response to Kaprow “Blurring of art and life”

          This passage talk about the art from daily life. Writer talks about some conception on what is the truth of art. She provided when she brushing her tooth, she feel some art feelings. She started to  observe hers elbow and fingers. She also to feel the passion from her arms. Try to connect these series of motion with art. It connect with art because developments within modernism itself led to art dissolution into its life sources.I agree with this point of view. From my perspective, if a kind of art do not have real life as for support, this kind of art is fake and cannot make the viewer feel it is real. 
          This passage focus on the process of brushing tooth is too specific. There are many things can provide inspirations of art. Because brushing tooth is too far away from art in normal people 's mind. So, it is s little bit hard to explain clear. I think she can choose biking. The acting of  brushing tooth is kind of light. In addition,  the scene is boring when people brushing tooth. The example she choose is too small

Micro-Assignment 2, Identity/Mapping

      On the first day, I walked here. First of all, because my teacher sent me a e-mail said classroom is very hard to find. So I choose some symbols architectures to help me arrive the classroom. This is my first time live off campus.  All the scenery is totally new for me. So the first things for me to do was I went back to my dorm, I used to live in campus for a year. I know certain buildings around the dorm. For vision part , I feel very family for me to go back to dorm. People like the scene of familiar. Because the weather was quiet cold at morning. I went back to China during the summer break. As everyone know, China does not have good environment. So when I took breath, I can felt the fresh air into my lung. When I walk along the street, I heard the sounds of whistle of cars. I felt the first day will be a busy day. Because I had a class before this class and it is about 8 o'clock. Every thing is humid in the morning. I use my hand pick up a flower in order to feel the fresh dew. With walking along to the street, I saw many students on the street. There are too many just like shopping mall. When I crossed into fisher business collage, I smelt some one is smoking cigar. The universal map is a simple map and everyone can understand it. However, when people using it, the sense of distance is still hard to feel.  
     From my perspective, I believe every single detail makes the journey is unique. Maybe I cannot see anyone smoke cigar at exactly same time as I saw at first day. During the journey , I also listened music because the distance is so long. I paid attention that first day always be the busy day. There was so many people around me, and the sky is much blue than China. I maybe missed some sounds from nature, like windy sound, because I were listening music at that time.

Response to “Cardiff, Miller and the Power of Sound”

This passage talk about the power of sounds. Sounds can make people feel peaceful, nervous and any kind of feeling. Sounds also can convey people's feeling. This article introduces two artists, Cardiff and Miller. Sometimes they feel they were filmmaker, even they deal with film, however, they are not making film at all. This passage teach me that the effect of sounds is more direct than video. It tied to memory,and to dreams. I agree with this point, I like listen music, when I listen music my brain starts to memory things that used to happen to me. 
This article is more like story happen around these two artist. It provides too much details for readers. I do not like this kind of passage. This article is beautiful but is a little bit unclear. Especially for me, it is very hard to learn something from story, from the process they making sounds art pieces. 

Response for Nipple Jesus

This article talks about the perspective of painting from a person who  is not too familiar with contemporary art. These series of opinions is more honesty and original.  The main character of this passage did not have any experiences of art. He even cannot tell the differences between different galleries. I can see where he is coming from in a way; all the galleries are the same. However, in some ways, non-art perspective sometimes is better than the perspectives from someone who deals with art.   After all, not every can know all the details of painting. Most of people have similar opinion with the main character of this article. 

I do not like the attitude of him, if he takes time to enjoy the painting which on the walls of gallery, he should know differences between different galleries. From my point of view, we can be ignorant at first, however, about some new thoughts, we should learn and be open to them. Then we can improve.

When people say radial picture, most of them think about flowers. I use cigarettes create this radiation shape. So I like this picture best.   

Responses for two articles

This article talks about the big ideals in artmaking. How to make art close to the big ideals you already set? What is a good big ideal? This article talks much details of this kind of question which engage me a lot. All we can see this passage is a teaching plan of artmaking. It includes many interesting activities and summary of knowledge points. For instance, it gives guide lines for developing essential questions of big ideals. Because it is a teaching plan, for a student’s perspective it is very easy to understand.

Because it is a teaching plan, it covered many aspects. However, it is too general to go deeply. It also provide student’s big ideal of artmakings which is not very useful for me to learn something in detail. In addition, the activities are in teacher’s perspective. From my perspective, I cannot figure out why teacher does this. In a way, it makes this article too general for a normal reader.

The second article is about interpreting and culture. This article talks much about how people learn or know something from visual culture. It says all learners can learn things from visual culture. I know visual culture is the easiest culture to understand. This is why history left many painting on the walls. However, there is one thing shocked me, any ages of human beings can understand visual culture.

In conclusion, it say any ages can understand visual culture, but in this article, it only do some experiments in kindergarten and pre-school children. Could elder learn something from visual culture? From perspective I believe about the experiments can choose width ages and then reach the conclusion.

Panting is a kind of war, is not a kind of relaxing method. This is the main point of this article. To paint a good painting is a challenge and the paper is battlefield. In writer’s perspective, painting contains strategies and there are so many things which should be thinking about. Writer divided these aspects into four sets of antonyms which are left and right, bottom and top, big and small and in front of and in back off.

It says that enemies always appear from left to the right. Not only western world has this thinking habit, most of the world has this thinking habit. In the painting world, this habit still exists. Another different from our daily life is the second set of antonym. Usually we used put important things at the top. For example, if something is important, people do it at the first usually. However in the painting world, never put important on the top. Big and small is a kind of comparison method which can makes important things extrude and get lookers more attentions. All up three is about two-dimensional plane. This article also tells us a method in stereo world which is “in front of” “in back off”.

In the beginning of second passage, writer use many words to describe one dunk by Professor J which is a nick name of Julius Erving. To be honest, I remember that dunk. I am a fan of basketball. Julius Erving could be describes milestone of dunking in basketball history. Even now, some dunking from Lebron James is similar with Julius Erving. However this dunking is after the rules of basketball become mature.

This passage is talking a lot about how the rules of basketball become mature steps by steps. In a way, rules can prove a sport become international and professional. From this passage, I learn a lot about how a sports become mature, how it developing into a world famous sports.

The third is talk about the faces in movie. How to make those faces more vivid and look more real is the main point of this article. In this article, it mentioned that face is very difficult to make because it has too many muscles to imitate, in addition those muscles do not touch the bone. In other words, you cannot use fake bones to support those fake muscles. People must create fake muscle one piece by one piece and make them connect with each other. Besides that, maker need to make the fake faces smile and have other expressions. In addition hair is also a very difficult part.  

In this article, writer provided real movie examples from Harry Potter and other successful movies. Movie special effects can make fake become real and make watchers believe. At the end of the article, even writer become a believer of uncanny valley.    

Introduction of Me

My name is Han Gao, from Qingdao which held 2008 olympic selling program and also famous by Qingdao Beer. This is my second year in Ohio State university, however my major is still undicided yet. Maybe finance or accounting in the future. I like watching movies. There are three posters in my room right now. Two of them are about movies. One is a shot from Pulp Fiction, the other one is the mask from V for Vendetta. My favorite statement is from V for Vendetta which is "Ideas do not bleed. They do not feel pain. " Becide movies, I like playing basketball in my free time. I feel very honour to have chance to study in Ohio State University. Hope everyone enjoy university life.
